Impact of age at identification and implantation on speech and language outcomes for children who receive cochlear implants before thee years of age
PhD Project
Jamie’s PhD research is investigating the impact of age at identification and implantation on speech and language outcomes for children who receive cochlear implants before 3 years of age. This longitudinal study aims to examine the benefits of early identification and early implantation of children with severe-to-profound hearing loss who proceed with cochlear implantation at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital.
Comparisons will be made between speech and language outcomes of those children identified with:
- Hearing loss early (<6months) and implanted early (<12months);
- Those identified early and implanted late (>12months); and
- Those identified late (>6months) and implanted late.
