Professor Catherine McMahon is the Head of Audiology at Macquarie University. Here research focuses on developing more appropriate methods of diagnosis of complex auditory disorders such as auditory neuropathy and tinnitus, and developing management techniques for this.
Much of her research has been conducted in conjunction with the Sydney Cochlear Implant Centre which has led to an interest in the field of assessing functional outcomes in cochlear implantation. Her expertise is in the area of evoked potentials and she is also a key researcher in the development of the novel magnetoencephalography (MEG) system for cochlear implants. Catherine’s role in the professional body as well as her teaching experience has also led to the development of online continuing professional development materials in the teaching of students and professionals in remote areas.
