Brain changes after cochlear implantation
PhD Project
It is known that considerable variability exists in speech perception outcomes after cochlear implantation, particularly in adults with post-lingual hearing loss. This project is interested in examining how brain plasticity may affect speech perception outcomes in older adult post-lingual cochlear implant (CI) recipients. We are also interested in how these changes may relate to cognitive ability, given that speech perception in difficult listening conditions relies on both cognition and audition. Understanding how brain plasticity might support or inhibit speech perception outcomes may enable the development of more targeted interventions for CI recipients.
