Mr Michael Fisher is a project leader / research engineer with the National Acoustic Laboratories, where he has worked since 1994. Michael researches and develops methods of improving hearing loss prevention, assessment and rehabilitation. His speciality is audio signal processing. Michael has developed a number of algorithms and holds several patents for these. The most known of these are in the SoundShield™ acoustic shock protection device for headset users.  

For many years Michael also ran a post graduate course in digital audio on a part-time basis at the University of Sydney where he also lectured in auditory physiology and psychoacoustics. Prior to that Michael ran an undergraduate course in digital audio at RMIT University.

In his past Michael has been a broadcast engineer, a sound engineer and a rock group manager.  He enjoys working with sound which is the common thread to all his work. His current professional interests include the Speech Reference Limiting noise control scheme and noise reduction in personal sound devices such as headphones, headsets, hearing protectors and hearing aids. Michael is also currently interested in spatial aspects of hearing and three-dimensional sound field capture and reproduction.

Michael is currently undertaking a PhD with Macquarie University.
