Profile
Andy Zhang has over 12 years experience as a biomedical engineer, with additional research experience in micro fabrication technology and Micro Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS).
Andy has a Master of Engineering from RMIT University, his research was focused on the silicon micromachining and micro sensors and actuators. He completed his PhD at the University of Melbourne on the acoustic sensors for the totally implantable cochlear implant. His expertise and current research interests include:
- Implantable sensor and actuator design and fabrication, in particular acoustic sensors using the piezoelectric technology;
- Acoustic measurement system and transducer device testing, both in-vitro and in-vivo;
- Biomechanics and physiology of the auditory periphery; and
- Micro fabrication technologies using biocompatible materials.
Andy Zhang is the project leader for the implantable sensors project in the HEARing CRC. He leads a range of research activities for the development of an implantable acoustic sensor for the next generation of totally implantable cochlear implant.
