Background
The HEARLab Hardware System has been developed by the National Acoustics Laboratory in Sydney and transferred to commercial partner, Frye Electronics, for manufacture.
The Aided Cortical Assessment (ACA) module that presents speech stimuli in the sound-field as part of HEARLab has also been complete, Frye Electronics has already supplied a number of HEARLab ACA devices to universities and practices for use and further evaluation.
Detail
This project is focused on the successful commercialisation of HEARlab and its various modules. In order to secure FDA regulatory approval for HEARLab, to enable marketing of the device in the USA, additional data is required to confirm the performance of HEARLab ACA’s new technology and its application to a new subject population.
The study comprises two parts:
1. verification of the performance of the software for obtaining cortical threshold estimates with a group of adult hearing impaired subjects
2. verification of the efficacy of the software as an aid to checking and adjusting hearing aid fittings with a number of hearing impaired infants.
