HEARing CRC Project: R1.1.3

Title:  Prevalence & Diagnosis of Auditory Processing Disorder in Australian Primary School Aged Children.

Detail:  The primary aim of this project is to determine the prevalence of Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) in the 7-12 year old population. Normative data will be collated for comparison with other studies.  Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) and Cortical Auditory Evoked Potentials (CAEP) results will be explored to assess if aspects of the waveform morphology (latencies, amplitude and interaural differences) correlate with a diagnosis of APD in any of the investigated APD subgroups.

APD will be considered under the overall APD heading and also within the individual skill subgroups assessed: binaural integration, binaural interaction, temporal resolution, temporal ordering ability and auditory working memory. It is also planned to compare the APD assessment results with an established measure of academic progress such as the Naplan assessment.
