HEARing CRC Project: R4.4.2

Title: Visualisation of the Cochlear Implant /Tissue Interface using high resolution  non-destructive x-ray microtomography.

Detail: This project aims to quantify the positional relationship between cochlear implant devices and the tissue interface in both experimental animal models and post mortem human samples. It will utilise high-resolution X-ray micro-tomography along with a novel electrolytic implant dissolution technique, whole-mount contrast enhancement and advanced visualisation to deliver fully 3D views of the implant/tissue interface at resolutions of a few micrometers. The outcome will be much improved protocols and data for assessment of implant surgical placement and the development of new cochlear electrodes.
