Title: Language and Reading Development of Children with Auditory Neuropathy Spectrum Disorder.
Detail: Language and reading development of children with auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder (ANSD) has not yet been investigated. The majority of research in ANSD field has focused on assessing functional outcomes of spoken language using superficial measures such as Phonetically-Balanced Kindergarten (PBK) phonemes (Rance et al., 2002) or Consonant/Nucleus/Consonant (CNC) phonemes (Rance & Barker, 2008). This type of testing is limited in providing information about how a child with ANSD might realistically function within a noisy learning environment (such as at primary school). This is especially important in the case of ANSD where increased noise levels can have a significant impact upon speech perception (Rance et al., 2007).
