About this Organisation

Under the leadership of Professor WPR (Bill) Gibson the RPAH Adult Cochlear Implant Program was established in 1984 and two years later the Children's Cochlear Implant Centre opened its doors. In 2001 the adult and children's programs brought together their internationally recognised clinical practice and medical expertise to form the Sydney Cochlear Implant Centre (SCIC).

Today SCIC offers a seamless service to all families, including children, adolescents and adults who are considering or who have received cochlear implants. The youngest child entering the program is three months old and the oldest adult implanted is over ninety years of age.

With the knowledge gained from over 2000 recipients and the combining of resources and expertise, the SCIC represents one of the largest and most experienced cochlear implant programs worldwide.
