Prescription procedure for hybrid devices

Program:
R4
Project area:
R4.6: Prescription and fitting of devices and management of patients
Project-ID:
R4.6.6
Project Status:
Ongoing

Background

There are well established, validated procedures that are followed for:

  • prescribing hearing aids; and
  • setting cochlear implant maps.

These procedures ensure that the correct hearing devices are selected for the individual and that the hearing device is ‘set’ to output sound information according to the personal preference of the individual. After an initial fitting procedure, an individual may return to a clinic to optimise their settings.

Detail

This project aims to develop and validate a similar prescriptive procedure for hybrid devices, that is, devices that combine acoustic and electric stimulation. Such hybrid devices are becoming increasingly popular and as yet there are no formal procedures describing their prescription.
